PERFORMANCE - INSTALLATION - 2023
The Matriarch
Performance Art for MaHalla Berlin Art Week 2023
The Matriarch challenges the boundaries of pleasure. Positioned on a pedestal or chair on the day of her 29th birthday, Kėkė Søl becomes a canvas, aimed at invoking pleasure. The installation is a mutual experiment, assessing the capacity of pleasure-givers to intuit the receptive energy of the pleasure-receiver. It's a personal exploration of performative pleasure, revealing the interplay between personal gratification and the influence of others in intimate encounters. Representative of the ‘divine feminine’, the installation also serves as a test of good will, emphasizing humanization over dehumanization in these intimate exchanges.
The throne and 29 selected items sat as an inactive instillation for the first three days of art week. Then on September 16th, Kėkė inhabited the chair for three hours, from 19:00 to 22:00. During this time, the instillation became interactive. The following day, the artwork was once-again inactive, and all the items that were used and moved around remained as so.
Instructions to the audience:
