EXIT: SOFT

For this Signal to Noise performance series at Arkaoda, I tried something new. I bound my own body with ropes, digging into skin and tissue and bone, to invite something visceral and real. The idea came from wanting to build myself an invitation: to experience myself, relate to myself, fully, through sound, in a raw and expressive way. Moving away from my usual softer, droney ambient into big bad noise, freaky synth and texture, crashing and cutting, distorting my voice and my body in the process. All edges blurred.

The glass orb is filled with stones and sand, salt and feathers and clay, notes written in pain and grief, a rotting face… Bound and tossed into air, tossed with my body. Thrown into crackling distortion.

I had so much fun, and I’m excited to open up a new era of wilder performance for myself. I’ve always come back to sound as a deeply personal and intimate artistic practice. I love the edginess of putting this out in the world.
